Energy voucher 2024: Support for homeowners amid rising energy prices

In response to rising energy prices, the government has introduced an energy voucher program to support households in the second half of 2024. The new benefit, regulated by the May 23, 2024 law, offers one-time financial assistance to families meeting certain income criteria.

The amount of the 2024 energy voucher

The energy voucher is for the period from July 1 to December 31, 2024. The amount of the benefit depends on the number of people in the household and ranges from PLN 300 for single-person households to PLN 600 for families of six or more. Importantly, households using electricity as their main source of heating can count on double the amount of the voucher, reaching up to PLN 1,200.

Income criterion for the energy voucher

To qualify for the program, income for 2023 must not exceed PLN 2,500 per month for single-person households or PLN 1,700 per month per person in multi-person households. However, it is worth noting that even if you slightly exceed this threshold, you can apply for a voucher on a “zloty for zloty” basis, where the benefit amount will be reduced accordingly.

How and when to apply for an energy voucher?

Energy voucher applications can be submitted from August 1 to September 30, 2024. Homeowners have several options for applying:

• traditionally in paper form at the municipality office,
• electronically via the ePUAP platform,
• as well as through the mCitizen application.

Regardless of the method chosen, the application should be addressed to the mayor of the municipality with jurisdiction over the place of residence.

Important information about the 2024 energy voucher
The minimum amount of the voucher to be paid is PLN 20.

Households heated with electricity must be registered in the Central Emission Register of Buildings (CEEB) by April 1, 2024, to be eligible for the increased voucher amount. The application must include details of all household members, income information and the main heating source.
